Instagram Reels size and aspect ratio

Instagram Reels play full-screen in a vertical 9:16 format, matching the 1080 × 1920 pixel resolution commonly recommended for Reels. But unlike a Story — which lives for 24 hours and auto-loops in the Stories tray — a Reel is permanent content: it appears in the Reels tab, can be shown to non-followers on the Explore page, and its cover image is exactly what visitors see on your profile grid. The cover is what earns the tap, so it deserves the same care as any other profile photo.

Because the Reel frame is tall and narrow, center your main subject and leave room around the edges. The interface elements of the Reel player occupy the top and bottom of the screen, so keep critical content within the central area.
