The right dimensions for an Instagram Story

The Instagram Story fills the full phone screen in portrait orientation. The commonly used Story size is 1080 × 1920 pixels — the familiar 9:16 vertical aspect ratio. A Story is temporary content: it appears in the Stories tray for 24 hours, auto-advances to the next Story, and auto-loops while viewed. Because viewers mostly catch it for seconds at a time, a single clear subject that reads instantly matters more than fine detail.

The Story interface paints the top band (your name, date, and controls) and the bottom band (caption, reply field, and link sticker) directly over the image. Keeping text and faces out of roughly the top 14% and bottom 20% of the 1080 × 1920 frame keeps them visible, and the central horizontal band is the safest place for what matters.
